I would like to clarify the reasons behind the weekly reading assignments that go home every week.

1) Spalding words - There is a Spalding word list that goes home every week. True fidelity with the curriculum requires a 30 word spelling test every week using the 30 words that I send home every week. Every week we discuss how to spell these words. In class we read the list for spelling and we read the list for reading. For extra practice, I send the list home for the students to practice reading.

2) Spelling words - Rather than having a weekly spelling list of 30 words, I chose 10 words from the list of 30 for the students to learn to spell for the week.

3) Phonograms - Every week we learn/practice 30 phonograms (sounds). Out of these 30 phonograms, they have a test for 20 of the phonograms. We practice this test every day. I send home the list of 30 phonograms for the students to practice at home as well as at school. Some students learn these sound very quickly so I also send home a list of all the other phonograms we have already learned but are not practicing or testing for the current week. This is an optional list for students to work on as needed.

4) Fluency Word List - Every week we read a story in class. I send home a list of words that are in the book. Students practice reading these words in class prior to read the books in class. I send the list home for extra practice. These words are just to practice. Many of the words will be repeated in following weeks.\
